2011 Waterford Teacher of the Year

Aaron Phillips and his wife Stephanie with their new Ford Fusion

Aaron Phillips was selected as Waterford's 2011 Teacher of the Year!

Phillips, a school teacher at Adams Elementary, received a free one-year lease on the vehicle of his choice from The Suburban Collection. He, accompanied by his wife Stephanie, chose the Ford Fusion.

Phillips began teaching at Adams Elementary School in 2001. Since then he received numerous accolades including the Presidential Award for Math and Science Teaching, Chrysler Bridging the Gap in Technology Award, State of Michigan Special Tribute Award, and was recognized by the Oakland Press with the Oakland County Mover and Shaker Award.

Philips and his students also have given back to the community. They have made blankets for the Pregnancy Help Center, provided food to a local animal shelter, began a letter writing campaign to those serving in the military, and have raised money for presents for local families by organizing a school bazaar.

The Waterford Foundation for Public Education Teacher of the Year Award is a way of affirming the value the Waterford community places on educational excellence and the critical role the classroom teacher plays in providing it.
