December 1 - 16 all Southeast Michigan Suburban Collection dealerships will be accepting new, unused, unwrapped toys to donate to Toys for Tots. All donations are going to the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots program.
Toys for Tots was started by Bill Hendricks, USCR in 1947. Hendricks, along with a group of Marine Reservists made it into the history books that year by collecting and distributing 5,000 toys to needy children throughout Los Angeles.
The idea for Toys for Tots came from Bill's wife, Diane who crafted a doll and asked
him to deliver it to an organization that would give it to needy
children at Christmas. When Bill determined no agency existed, his wife Diane told him that he should start one. He did.
Local children receive the toys throughout Christmas when they are distributed by the U.S. Marine Corps.
The mission of the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve's is to distribute donated toys within the community the campaign is happening to needy children at Christmas.
The Christmas toy is believed to assist them in
becoming responsible, productive, and patriotic citizens. The goal is to deliver a message of hope to less fortunate children
through a Christmas toy.
The objective of the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots program is to play an active role in the development of our nation's most valuable resources, the children. It is also an opportunity to unite members of the local community in a common cause each year during the annual toy collection and distribution campaign.
The Suburban Collection participates in a number of charity collections throughout the year. The success of each collection is based on the participation of our employees, customers, and community. We appreciate your support!
