Oprah Winfrey provided the keys to a brand new Volkswagen Beetle car to John George, founder of the Motor City Blight Busters organization.
Suburban Volkswagen of Farmington Hills was the location of the presentation of a new Volkswagen car in recognition of the work that has been done by John George, and the Motor City Blight Busters.
Oprah Winfrey, during one of her famous giveaways, selected John as one of 275 lucky winners of vehicles for their exemplary work in the community.
Winfrey gave away the Beetles during her final "Ultimate Favorite Things" show in November of 2010, to the 275 community conscious audience members in attendance.
Kelly George of Flint, John George's niece, sent a letter to the "Oprah" show, nominating her uncle, explaining the work he does with Blight Busters, which is a nonprofit organization that levels and rebuilds numerous abandoned properties in around the metro Detroit area
John George and his niece Kelly, both received a new 2012 Volkswagen Beetle and were part of the six Michigan residents that received cars from Oprah Winfrey.
